FAQ's
What is the minimum value you will lend?
We offer loans from £250 and there is no maximum. Our rates get lower the bigger your loan, so customers often like to send us several valuable items to maximize the amount of their loan. Check out how much we will lend against your valuables using the Loan Calculator
For loans less than £250 please contact us on 0800 028 4172 for advice on how H&T can help you locate your nearest H&T Pawnbrokers store.
What is the maximum value you will lend?
Provided you are able to leave with us items of sufficient value there is no maximum to the amount we are prepared to lend. Check out how much we will lend against your valuables using the loan calculator on our Home page. Please contact us directly by phone or e mail for an up to date quote and to discuss any special transportation, storage, or valuation arrangements that may be necessary for particularly valuable or bulky items.
Will you lend against damaged or personalised items?
Our valuation will take into account the condition of your valuables and the presence of any engraved or other personalised markings. As a rough guide, damaged jewellery will be valued on the weight of precious metal and the size and quality of any precious stones it contains. Generally, watches will need to be in good working order; but if they are made of precious metal, or contain precious stones they will receive a valuation based on this content even if they are not working.
How do I get my valuables to you?
Once you have completed your on-line loan application, the next working day you will receive a pre-paid, empty courier bag from us together with a list itemizing the valuables you mentioned in your application. We need to obtain an expert valuation to confirm our loan offer. So as soon as you are ready you should send us your valuables using the courier bag which is insured to £30,000.
How safe will my valuables be once they have been sent to you?
Your valuables will be transported via secure courier insured to £30,000 and while they are in our possession they will be held securely in our vaults. As soon as your loan has been repaid, or should you decide to decline our loan offer, your valuables will be returned to you via secure courier insured to £30,000 up to the moment you sign for safe receipt.
How Do I get my goods back
You can obtain possession of your goods at any time during the contract by contacting H&T and repaying the original loan plus any interest due. As the end of your contract nears, we will contact you to remind you that your contract is about to expire and setting out what you need to do.
How Long does the contract run for
Our contracts run for 6 months from the date you pledge your goods, though you can terminate at any time by repaying the loan plus interest. You can also renew your pledge by signing a new contract for a further 6 month period – it’s entirely up to you!
How much per gramme are you paying
The value of your goods depends on a number of factors, not least the weight and quality of precious metals they contain. To ensure that you receive full value for your goods, we monitor the worldwide precious metals markets and update our pricing on a regular basis. For up to date information, please contact our help line on 0800 028 4172
Can I Pay instalments
Your contract does not require you to make monthly instalments, but you can make partial payments at any time during your contract to pay the interest or even reduce the principal, ensuring that the amount you need to repay at the end of the contract is manageable – it’s entirely up to you!
What happens if I fail to contact you at the end of the contract
As the end of your contract approaches, we will contact you to remind you of it’s expiry date and let you know what you need to do. You have several options, including:
- Repaying the loan plus interest
- Renewing the loan by clearing the outstanding interest
- Walking away
If you chose the latter and do not want to regain possession of your goods, they will become the possession of H&T and may be sold at auction to repay your outstanding debt with H&T – we will of course make every attempt to contact you and ensure that you are fully aware of your options before taking this step. Please be aware that if there is a shortfall between the amount raised and the amount owing you will remain liable for this amount.
